TRAIL RIDES IN THE BEARTOOTH MOUNTAINS
A little drive West on I -90 then South on Highway 212 for about 1 hour and you arrive in Red Lodge Montana. Red Lodge sits at the base of the Beartooth Highway, a very scenic route across the Beartooth mountains. It takes one to the Northeast gate of Yellowstone Park. Red Lodge is a small mountain town with splendid amenities and western charm. Here lies the gateway to the Custer National Forest, Absaroka /Beartooth Wilderness, miles of trails, streams, massive peaks, wooded forest and wildlife.
All are welcome to hike, camp, horseback ride, fish and explore this pristine region. However, few are permitted to operate as Outfitters/Guides for the entire region. Dream Dance Outfitters has proudly been a permitted Outfitter Guide for several years now, and we have taken hundreds of guests from all over the world on the trails within this amazing Wilderness. We are proud to be the premier outfitter for the region. We can take individual families on horseback rides on trails once traveled by the Crow, Sioux, Blackfoot, Jeremiah Johnson, Buffalo Bill, Calamity Jane, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, as well as many others brave enough to explore the vast beckoning passes.
Dream Dance Outfitters and its crew of experienced horses will be glad to carry you along these routes and help create a wonderful mountain experience for your group or family. We have gladly helped many dance their dreams to life astride one of our horses breathing clean mountain air while gazing upon rushing waters and the occasional passing moose or bear.
We have several options available and are glad to discuss trip length, trail selection and foods that we can bring along if you select the longer rides. We provide rain gear, water and snacks on all rides. Guests need to wear long pants, sturdy shoes, bring a long sleeve shirt, sunscreen and special medications if required. Please note Dream Dance Outfitters has been selected by several private ranches as the Outfitter/Guide upon their property for guests. They have chosen us because of our safety record, reputation, dependability and quality herd– as well as our commitment to quality service.
Keep looking and we list all our available rides with rates. We are also able to conduct backcountry wedding ceremonies or vow renewals. Yes, we are the only ones doing that– so if you want a small wedding by a mountain stream we can handle it. The vows and amenities are discussed when preparing.
When booking your trip, we will ask for height and weight of the individual riders so that we can choose the proper horse for that person. We do have max weight limits that we can discuss; we do have a couple of large horses and will do our best to accommodate everyone.
I forgot, we ride at a pace that suits the least experienced rider of your group and the terrain is always a consideration. Safety is the focus and after many years of service we have had no injuries and many happy clients.
Oops, almost forgot: our young age limit is a mature 7 years old. There is no riding double with a parent, due to the inherent hazards of the terrain as well as riding experience.
** All our life we dream. At each phase of our life we dance, to celebrate, to perform or to honor our feelings. Our world with our horse family allows our hearts and minds to dance daily as we live out our dreams. We gladly share with our riders the vibrancy and spirit of the horse, as well as the magic land on which we live. **
EXPERIENCE THE BEARTOOTHS
IN AN UNFORGETTABLE WAY!
ALL DAY ride lasting for 8 to 9 hours. We will discuss with you the different trails available at the time and make suggestions as to the one that best suits your request. It is a full day of riding that enables us to go farther into the backcountry and cover more ground. At times, we have ridden over the plateau and ended at a different trailhead. It is not for the beginning rider as it is considerable time in the saddle. You will ride for about 4 hours then stop for lunch that we provide, frolic stream side, nap or chat. Those who like fly fishing can request a ride that goes to a high-country lake or enjoy streamside. Following ample break time, we ride out and you return to lodging and friends with new stories.
Cost $285.00 per person
¾ daylast about 6 hours. We select a trail we believe will be of interest to you. Ride for about 3 hours then stop for lunch, that we provide. We hang out, wade the stream, talk about the region or relax. Then remount and return to your vehicle, then onto your lodging to text or make notes of your day.
Cost $185.00 per person
1/2 Day Ride
1/2 day last about 4 hours including mounting and saddle adjustment time. We ride along one of our scenic trails for 11/2 to 2 hours then stop for snacks, relax, stretch, take pictures then remount for the return ride.
Cost $135.00 per person
** Note almost all the trails we use are in and back out the same way. The Beartooth trails generally follow a stream along sometimes steep climbs. The route is cleared but very rocky. Few Loop trails exist in this region due to the general topography.
2 Hour Ranch Ride
2 hour ranch ride also known as our Roscoe Ranch Ridge Ride, you ride from our ranch onto a neighboring cattle ranch. There we follow a two-track ranch road, some cattle paths and cross a meadow or two. We ride up a ridge line where you can see 4 different mountain ranges. Easy ride short duration, totally out on the range.
